Education

Education is another cornerstone of our work in Nicaragua. Peace and Hope Trust built a large school in Bluefields, Nicaragua in 1996, which currently has an enrollment of approximately 400 students, 30% of whom attend on a Scholarship Program that is subsidized by Peace and Hope Trust. While half of the staff are paid through the income generated by tuition, most of the balance are subsidized by Peace and Hope Trust.

Along with mainstream education, Peace and Hope Trust believes that it is important to equip our beneficiaries with practical skills that will be useful for their own survival and allow them to be marketable in the workforce. To that end, we own and operate two year-round vocational training facilities on the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua. Programs offered at these facilities include sewing classes and wood-working training to students from the age of 16 and older.

Peace and Hope Trust offers a scholarship program for Nicaraguan students to pursue formal training at Redcliffe College in England. Students selected are those who have demonstrated a deep compassion for their own people and a commitment to strong moral values. Since 1999, we have hosted more than 8 students for undergraduate and graduate level education in the United Kingdom.

Another aspect of our education program concerns the countless local children, ranging in ages from 6 to 16, who do not attend school due to inadequate funds, inappropriate attire, lack of necessary documentation and other reasons. Through the work of dedicated volunteers and the contributions of concerned donors, Peace and Hope Trust reaches this group by first providing basic literacy and comprehension teaching and then securing the child’s annual enrollment in a local school.
